“Rest in Peace” is out of fashion these days.
With the recent advancements on generative AI, it’s never been easier to emulate people’s likeness, voices and personalitites. The market took notice and we can see companies animating real people all the time, either to make the subjects younger, stronger, to add costumes, to fix mustaches, to add new scenes, to do stunts, and what-not.
The part where this gets weird is when the same companies decided to digitally re-animate dead people.
This is Digital Necromancy: recreating and using dead people’s bodies, voices, talents in digital form. Doing it for profit makes everything a bit more odious.
This site is an effort to document this trend and to remind people that this is not normal, this is not healthy and this is not cool.
Let the dead be dead.
